Ann Klopp

Biography

I am a physician-scientist and visiting professor in the Department of Radiation Medicine at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, specializing in radiation treatment for women with gynecologic cancers. My clinical interests include brachytherapy and image-guided radiation therapy, with an emphasis on tailoring treatment to each patient. Before joining Wisconsin, I served as Chief of the Gynecologic Radiation Oncology Section and Director of Brachytherapy at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where I worked with colleagues to incorporate MRI-guided brachytherapy into routine clinical care.

My research focuses on understanding how gynecologic cancers respond to radiation and using that knowledge to personalize treatment. This includes studying combinations of radiation and immunotherapy, investigating circulating tumor DNA as a marker of treatment response, and developing patient-derived tumor models to study resistance. Through collaborative laboratory studies and clinical trials, our goal is to identify approaches that improve cancer control while reducing treatment-related side effects.

Teaching, mentorship, and collaboration are important parts of my work. I serve as Co-Chair of the NRG Oncology Corpus Committee and lead the Gynecologic Section of the American Board of Radiology Oral Boards. I previously served as President of the American Brachytherapy Society (2022–2023). At Wisconsin, I look forward to supporting trainees and working with colleagues across disciplines to advance research and patient care.
