LeMoyne Habimana-Griffin, MD, PhD

Dr. Habimana-Griffin began his Bentson Translational Research Fellowship in September 2025. Under the mentorship of Dr. Federico Rey, Professor of Bacteriology in the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology, he is developing an independent research program focused on understanding how the human microbiome influences cancer progression and response to treatment.

Specifically, his work aims to elucidate how microbial metabolism of dietary nutrients modulates responses to radiotherapy. Using preclinical head and neck tumor models, gnotobiotic mice, and metagenomic and metabolomic profiling of patient samples, he seeks to develop microbiome-targeted interventions that enhance the therapeutic ratio of cancer treatment.
