The Department of Radiation Medicine recently celebrated five incredibly talented resident graduates at The Tornado Steakhouse to honor completion of their training programs in June 2026.

The Radiation Oncology and Physics graduates were honored with speeches, and certificates commemorating their milestone achievements. Here’s where they are headed next!

  • Mustafa Basree, DO (Radiation Oncology)
    • What are your plans after graduation? Starting faculty position at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH as an Associate Staff in the Department of Radiation Oncology.
    • Do you have a favorite memory of your time here? Reflecting back, there are several favorite memories for my time here. I have loved spending time getting to know my co-residents and staff and to celebrate their personal and professional accomplishments. I will miss hiking in Madison’s wonderful park system, and having a snack at Memorial Terrace.
  • Brad Eckelmann, MD, PhD (Radiation Oncology)
    • What are your plans after graduation? University of Michigan, Assistant Professor treating Gyn and Sarcoma
    • Do you have a favorite memory of your time here? So many! Radium society meetings, dinners with coresidents, Bassetti ASTRO dinners, chair rounds with Paul, chatting in the brachy planning room with the physicists, concerts with Steve, hanging in the planning room listening to tunes. I cherish them all!
  • Laura Bennett, PhD (Radiation Oncology Physics)
    • What are your plans after graduation?  Medical Physicist at UCHealth Harmony Campus in Fort Collins, Colorado
    • Do you have a favorite memory of your time here? Favorite memory might be working on AAPM abstracts with my fellow senior co-residents
  • Elissa Khoudary, MS (Radiation Oncology Physics)
    • What are your plans after graduation?  I will be joining Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Barnabas Health as a clinical medical physicist, with a primary focus on brachytherapy.
  • Nicholas Lynch, PhD (Radiation Oncology Physics)
    • What are your plans after graduation?  I will be joining the UW Madison Department of Radiation Medicine as an Assistant Professor, where I will work with the proton physics team at East Park Medical Center.
    • Do you have a favorite memory of your time here? One of my favorite experiences was being involved in the commissioning of our new proton therapy system and having the opportunity to work closely with the proton therapy team and my fellow residents on such a large and exciting project.

It’s been such a joy to have these five in our residency programs. They’ve shown not only incredible skill and dedication, but also genuine kindness, curiosity, and care for the people around them. We’re proud of everything they’ve accomplished and grateful for the energy and heart they brought to our department, labs, and clinics. They’ll be deeply missed, but we’re excited to see all the ways they’ll continue to make a difference for their patients and the field of radiation oncology and medical physics. Congratulations!
